The Best Man City Retro Shirts? Here’s What Our Experts Picked
We can all agree there’s something special about retro football shirts. But what is it exactly? Our Company Director, Matt Cole, explains:
“The beauty of retro football shirts is that they represent some of the most iconic moments in football history.
“You recognise them anywhere and are transported back to your parents sofa or, if you were lucky, when you were at the match!
“So it’s nostalgia, all wrapped up in one shirt.”
Now we’ve got that understanding, let’s take a look at our team’s picks!
Manchester City Retro Away Shirts
As much as we love the pale blue shirts, away shirts have a piece of our hearts. Anything goes… anything?

Just look at this shirt!
The white fades into the burgundy with the multiple diagonal stripes. This is back in the day when burgundy was the go-to for Manchester City’s away shirts.
Do you think we will see a resurgence of this colour?

Only two years later and the classic burgundy has vanished.
The acid yellow/ green is accompanied by black and teal stripes - but vertical this time.
The slight V-neck and collar make this Man City retro shirt a classic!

You wouldn’t even need to call yourself a football fan to know this is a retro shirt, but you might not know it’s Manchester City’s.
That purple screams of the 90s as well as those thin stripes.
You can’t help but love it!

Yet another classic retro Man City top!
Again, we have more stripes but this time they’re burgundy on a white background.
The blue is back though, this time found on the collar that’s not really a collar.

Stripes again!
This time in red and navy but it’s joined by white and navy geometric prints over the shoulders. All three colours can be found on the cuffs and collars.

More stripes… what is it about the 80s and 90s with stripes?
For this Man City retro shirt, the stripes are various shades of light blue with a matching V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs.

For the 1992 shirts, shirt designer Umbro yet again played on the various shades of blue.

If it wasn’t clear this is a Kappa design, the Kappa logo is repeated all the way down the shoulders.

Now, whilst this isn’t exactly retro by age, but by looks it certainly is!
The sky blue of this Nike shirt is perhaps quite… plain. Is that part of the charm though?
